I don't just sell homes in West Haven. I live here. You'll find me at West Haven Days every June and at the holiday lights lighting at City Hall, and I've served as chair of the city's beautification committee. West Haven has grown a lot in a short time. The Census counted 16,739 residents in 2020 and estimated 25,627 by July 2025. It still has a hometown feel, with its own rodeo, miles of river trail, and a city calendar people actually show up for. Here's my honest rundown of what it's like to live here.

Getting around

West Haven sits on the west side of Weber County. Ogden is to the east, Roy to the south, Hooper to the west, and Marriott-Slaterville to the north. Salt Lake City is about 35 miles south. I-15 runs right through the east side of the city, and the 21st Street (SR-104) interchange is in West Haven. Head south on I-15 through Roy and Riverdale and you'll reach the 5600 South exit, which serves the north end of Hill Air Force Base. If you'd rather take the train, the Roy FrontRunner station is just south of the city line at 4155 S. Sandridge Drive (off 4000 South). It has a free park-and-ride lot with about 500 spaces. UTA's F620 West Haven Flex bus route connects Roy Station with West Haven. Commute times depend on traffic and where you're headed, so test-drive your route at rush hour before you buy.

Parks & outdoors

For a city its size, West Haven has a lot of park space. The city's parks inventory lists 14 parks plus the River Parkway trail system. Some highlights:

  • R. Kenneth Baldwin Country Park (2825 W. 3300 S.) is the city's main park. It has two reservable pavilions with kitchenettes, a playground, a ball diamond, and an arena, and it hosts most of the big city events.
  • Prevedel Park (1300 S. 2300 W.) is about 83 acres along the Weber River. It's the main trailhead for the paved Weber River Parkway, and the city also has campsites on the trail there.
  • Windsor Farms Park (2683 S. 3150 W.) has a fishing pond.
  • Stonefield Park (4529 S. 4700 W.), the Sports Park / Recreation Complex (4215 S. 3900 W.), Green Farms Park, Staker Park, Fair Grove Park, Tuscan Meadows Park, and more are spread through the neighborhoods.
  • Trails include the West Haven Trail Loop around Prevedel Park, the Hooper Slough Trail from Stonefield Park past Fair Grove Park, and the loop around Country Park.

Park pavilions and the arena can be reserved through West Haven Parks & Recreation: westhavenut.gov/departments/parks.php.

Schools

West Haven is served by Weber School District. Public schools located in West Haven include:

  • Country View Elementary, 4650 W. 4800 S.
  • Haven Bay Elementary, 5020 W. 3300 S. (opened fall 2024)
  • Kanesville Elementary, 3112 S. 3500 W.
  • West Haven Elementary, 4385 S. 3900 W.
  • Mountain View Junior High, 2054 S. 2700 W. (opened fall 2024)
  • Rocky Mountain Junior High, 4350 W. 4800 S.

Depending on your address, high school is West Field High (2007 S. 4300 W. in nearby Taylor, opened 2024) or Fremont High in Plain City. Some addresses near Roy are assigned to Roy schools. Boundaries change as the area grows, so always check the exact address with the district's boundary tool: https://www.wsd.net/page/boundary-map/.

Community events

West Haven's Community Events Committee runs a full calendar every year:

  • Easter Egg Hunt, the Saturday before Easter, with the City Youth Council
  • Touch-a-Truck, the first Monday in May
  • West Haven Days, the fourth weekend in June. It's the big one, with a rodeo, Miss Rodeo West Haven pageant, mutton bustin', cowboy mounted shooting, the Route 1776 run, a car show, a flapjack breakfast, a parade, dinner, a movie, and a concert in the park, and fireworks
  • Pumpkin Walk, the Monday before Halloween
  • Heart of the Holidays, the first Monday after Thanksgiving

Everyday convenience

Today, most errands happen along the 1900 West and 21st Street corridors on the city's east side, where you'll find gas stations, fast food, and service businesses, or a short drive away in Ogden and on Riverdale Road, home to stores like Target at 1135 W. Riverdale Rd. Big news: a Walmart Supercenter is under construction on Midland Drive near 4200 South. It will be West Haven's first grocery store and will include a pharmacy and fuel station. The city's current budget expects it to open before mid-2027, though there's no firm date yet.

Homes in West Haven

Not long ago, much of West Haven was farmland. The city was incorporated in 1991 from the farming communities of Kanesville and Wilson, installed a citywide sewer system in 2002, and has grown quickly since, so most homes are fairly new. You'll mostly find single-family homes in subdivisions built since the 2000s, plus newer townhome communities.
